Whatup, everybody???????????? I’m BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hope this finds everyone well and having a beautiful, hot summer. For me, this has been the most amazing time, a time of learning, growing, really progressing, I mean, this past year for me has been nothing short of extraordinary, and now, FINALLY, September is coming, which means BROKE WIDE OPEN IS ALL GROWN UP! Fresh off of tearing up the undergroundzero Festival at Performance Space 122 in Manhattan, I am happy to say that on September 9th, BROKE WIDE OPEN is opening, and will be presented as a full blown workshop production for 3 weeks, running thru Sept. 26th, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 3pm, and I am MAD CRAZY STOOOOOOOOOOOOPID EXCITED!!
With a committed executive producer in place now providing all of the resources we need to make my vision become a live experience that we can all share, I also have the good fortune of having Tamilla Woodard as my director and collaborator in the continued development of BROKE WIDE OPEN. Steven Bishop Seely is still here, of course, our Dramaturg and for me, the person who really guided me thru the process of morphing my project from a performance piece into a real play, I am forever grateful for that. Tamilla has put together a MASSIVE team of collaborators, including Shoshana Currier as our producer/GM, Kate Freer and David Tennet as our video team, Nick Moore is our sound designer, Deb O the set and costume designer, Bruce Steinberg our lighting designer, and Debra Stunich our stage manager.
Damn….. let’s all breathe for a quick second. This is a LONG way from a few years ago at The Stephen Crane House in Asbury Park, NJ with me, my macbook pro, and my remote. There has been ALOT of hard work in between, and in fact, this project REALLY began with the profound experience of making of my album, BROKE WIDE OPEN, which led ultimately to changing my entire creative [and personal] life on so many levels, special thanks to Jack Rollins for that opportunity, Mr Rollins said to me one day during the writing of that album, “Rock, be willing to reveal yourself in your work, be brave, be generous, be Rock!”. And so…… here I am, and here we are. BROKE WIDE OPEN. And I want to share all of it with you…….
***BROKE WIDE OPEN is a musical and poetic avalanche of words dramatically cascading into the compelling journey of one man's search for his biological mother, his identity, his home. Best described as a verbal opera, Rock WILK is a one person symphony, conducting a dynamic movement of language weaved into a beautiful theatrical experience. ***
So come share this moment with me, and please continue to be a part of my process

“… He’s that guy sitting across from you on the G line, suddenly shouting out not in subway-craziness but in epiphany. Think much-maligned Eminem in his most devastatingly personal moments… This is a guy who knows words and music and the ways in which they either cooperate or compete…
The Wilkman cometh…”-Tom Chesek, Red Bank Orbit
