process, where we at?

Performance Space 122 and undergroundzero under our belts, a huge success, we are on to the next place, the full blown production, the workshop at The Medicine Show Theatre on west 52nd St in Manhattan opening September 9th and running thru September 26th. I am furiously finishing memorizing this "avalanche of words", as my producer, Shoshana has called them, and Tamilla [my AMAZING director] and I will be going into this intensive rehearsal schedule in a few weeks for most of August and the beginning of September taking us right into opening night. We will be working with all of our collaborators during that time, set and lighting designers, music director, videographer, we have a team that is unbeatable, BROKE WIDE OPEN will continue to be this beautiful shared experience, which has been my intention from the beginning of this process, and we will continue to progress. So, today, I am finishing up the final scene of BROKE WIDE OPEN, this is a difficult part of the story for me to re-live, but the beauty is that I can continue to feel my life in a very present way and my past experiences will be gifts that just keep on giving, what's better than that? So......... in I go, deep with my story, I will learn more about myself today, more about this story, and PLEASE stay with me during this process, let's ride this right into opening night, where you will be able to see what happens along this journey of mine... right to the...... end, which has yet to be revealed in public. My hope is that this journey is really OURS, so drop me some words....and we'll get there together.
Back soon....

TheSometimesWhy

August 3, 2010

it's really rare these days that anything these even remotely tips its hand at what it offers to the consuming public in a title because to do so creates an expectation. the more specific the title, arguably, the greater the expectation. "broke wide open" is just the kind of show (and title) i am talking about. the good news is that not only does the title create expectations, i know for a fact that the show itself transcends them. because mr. wilk has done his homework both off and onstage, his willingness to be broke wide open only invites the same for his audience. personally speaking, i think nothing could benefit us more than to be so broken. it's what we need to do if we are going to have any hope of ever being fixed.
